Well nine enthusiastic souls turned up to race today, on what was to prove a delightful spring day. But I get ahead of myself, there was weed to clear first in the major portion of the lake and the end nearest the spring was unusable, therefore a smaller triangle and dog bone was set. The wind was nothing to light with the usual gusts but most skippers chose to go for the Big Rig sail, there were times when it was all stop and if you were in the wrong place you just could not get into the leading pack.

Having said that Mike Ewart did a sterling sixteen races closely followed by David Wilkinson, and trailing a bit was Peter Jackson in third who deciding he needed some water time with his SliM has allowed Paul Risdale to move into first place in the Dead Tree Trophy. Paul was having a better day with his WICE and came in fourth, he was always in the leading pack just didn't quite turn it into results.
Further down the fleet there were improvements. It was all change with Peter Shepherd lending Sid Sims his ICE with (02) sails from Nigel Rudd, Sid Sims in turn lent Geoff Raygada his 1299, (05) and PJ/PS lent a 1299 to Brian Hawkins with sails (165). Peter Shepherd had previously sailed his SliM twice so reverted to his old Razor 3 lent to him by Gerry Rudd just to get some Dead Tree Trophy points on the board this time, as he has already used up his two discards for this competition. |
Early on he had a great tussle with Sid Sims however as Sid got used to ICE and improved, Peter Shepherd was left behind as Sid joined the ranks of the fleet battling for top honours this meant he took fifth place from Peter Shepherd sixth. Brian Hawkins had to leave early, however he took with him the 1299 he had sailed during the day.
I think Geoff Raygada was doing better with his borrowed 1299 from his original Half Pint 2 used previously. I do believe he is going to make a Red Box, which should be competitive and whilst it is a tricky build should prove a more forgiving hull if he can hook it up with the right sails, however you could say that about any Footy. Peter Shepherd took a knife and some wire cutters to Sid's sail to make some drastic alterations and hopefully an improvement! Tim Lees is still struggling a bit with his Puma but shows signs of improvement managing to relegate PS into last place in race 5 by out sailing him! |
